Andrea Bond, in regard's to the DMB's performance:
"The audience exploded with cheers and applause as members of the DMB took the stage at the Blockhouse Fire Department
on February 11th. One members of the audience had said previously, "[The] DMB was the reason I showed up, I think they kick
ass".
It was an interesting switch as Dave Maddox sat behind the drums and Christian Weagle grabbed a guitar and stood
in front of a microphone, while Dave Merritt was still standing behind his guitar. Dave Merritt (guitarist) described his
feelings toward the show as "I guess we did well enough, I had a good time, and it looked like everyone else did too".
Their
set included the songs “I Won’t Back Down”, “Learning to Fly” and “Free Falling”,
all three by Tom Petty, then “Handle me with Care” by the Traveling Wilburys and also “Teenage Wasteland”
which turned into “Another Brick in the Wall” by The Who, and Pink Floyd, which was their encore song, as the
crowd had been very obvious in letting the band know that they wanted to hear another song.
Christian returned to the
drums for the last song in there set, "Teenage Wasteland”/ “Another Brick in the Wall" and Alexandre (of the Broomhandles)
helped Christian out on some vocals.
Kyle Samson (lead guitarist of DMB) who had said that he couldn't make it to the
show stepped in for a few of the songs, playing along side the rest.
Other people in the audience, described the show
as “I thought that they were good, hilarious” -- “Classic DMB" -- "I don't like the song ‘Free Falling’,
but they pulled it off pretty well" – “I thought they were awesome, Christian is an awesome singer”, “I
hoped it was going to be all of them, because i have never heard them before, but from what I heard it was pretty good”
and the last comment being a mixed review “Pretty sweet, I much prefer the drummer as the singer, than the actual singer".
Matt Ernst being the "actual singer" that he was referring to.
Highlights of the show included a large line of people
swaying back and forth to the collaboration of “Teenage Wasteland” and “Another Brick in the Wall”
and people holding up lighters while Christian sang.
As well as the audience singing along to the song “Free
Falling” as Christian stepped away from the microphone, letting the crowd take it away, which is well picked up in their
video footage of the show.
Dave Maddox, normally their bassist and spokesperson, was asked about his feelings towards
the show overall: "I was pretty pleased with the overall attendance. I personally thanked all the bands for playing their
heart and souls out, and for just one night it seemed like the scene was ‘one’ again. [I] can't wait ‘til
the next one."
